Alan Shearer has dubbed Joelinton and Dan Burn as ‘outstanding’, while reacting to Newcastle United beating Leicester City 2-0 in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
One can understand why Shearer especially praised the Newcastle pair, who scored the vital goals against Leicester at St. James’ Park.
While the hosts were largely dominating proceedings, Brendan Rodgers’ side had seemingly found a way to keep the scores tied at 0-0.
However, Dan Burn decided to save the day for Newcastle, playing a simple, yet effective one-two with Joelinton before placing a weak-footed strike, described as ‘absolutely superb’ by Sky pundit Andy Hinchliffe, beyond the reach of Danny Ward.
It took as long as 60 minutes for Eddie Howe’s men to take the lead but they did so in style, courtesy of the duo singled out by Alan Shearer.
Just 12 minutes later, it was Joelinton who found the back of the net and much like Dan Burn, he managed to do so with his weak foot as well.
After Miguel Almiron played a delightful through ball behind the Leicester backline, the Brazilian timed his run to perfection before doubling his side’s lead.
As the pair found the answers for Newcastle, the club’s greatest-ever player sang their praises.
Alan Shearer says Joelinton & Dan Burn were his standouts for Newcastle vs Leicester in the Carabao Cup quarter-final

Alan Shearer took to Twitter to reserve special praise for Joelinton and Dan Burn for their brilliant showings for Newcastle United in their 2-0 victory against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
“Brilliant team performance. Big Joe [Joelinton] and Big Dan [Burn], outstanding. Semi-finals, here we [Newcastle] come”, Shearer tweeted.
Perhaps the biggest compliment one can give to both Joelinton and boyhood Newcastle fan, Dan Burn is that the club’s biggest legend reacted to the pair’s displays against Leicester like a fan would, which sums up their quality on the night.
