Newcastle United will face Nottingham Forest in the Championship this evening.

Alan Shearer has outlined on Coral.co.uk the importance of Newcastle United winning against Nottingham Forest this evening.

Newcastle will take on Forest away from home at the City Ground in the Championship in a few hours’ time.

The Magpies will head into the match on the back of a defeat to Hull City away from home in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

It was Rafael Benitez’s side’s second successive competitive loss following a 1-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers at St. James’ Park in the Championship last weekend.

Newcastle legend Shearer has underlined the importance of the team returning to winning ways this evening.

“It’s back to the league and back to Nottingham Forest, and that’s a big game now because they’ve been beaten twice in a row,” Shearer wrote on Coral.co.uk. “It’s important they get back to winning ways.”

“I think he’s done an excellent job,” added Shearer about Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez. “I think it was a tough start the first two games.”

“Brighton are a little bit closer than he’d want,” the former Newcastle striker continued. “The game at Notts Forest is a decent chance to get back to winning ways. It always has been and is their priority to get back to the Premier League.”

Newcastle have the best squad in the Championship and will head into this evening’s match against Forest as favourites.

The last two results have been disappointing for the Magpies, but one must remember that the defeats were quite narrow.

The Magpies do need to improve their performance, but a point against Forest away from home at the City Ground in the Championship this evening would not be a bad result.
