Tottenham Hotspur will be licking their wounds after their first North London derby defeat to Arsenal since Mauricio Pochettino took over as manager in 2014.

First half goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez sealed all three points for the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium to close the gap between the two teams to just a point.

Since Pochettino was named boss the Argentine’s record against the top six away from home has been disappointing, winning just one, drawing six and losing ten.

Speaking as a pundit on Match Of The Day, former striker Alan Shearer believes that Spurs will not win the Premier League title until they learn how to pick up more points on the road.

“They’ve got no chance of winning the league unless that improves,” said Shearer.

“We keep hearing about the potential of this Tottenham team and the potential of their manager. For them to be classed as a very good team they’ve got to win a trophy and win one soon.”

It has been over nine years since Tottenham won a major trophy when they lifted the League Cup in 2008 and they have not picked up the league title since 1961.

That said, they have shown great improvement under Pochettino over the past few years but according to Shearer only silverware will prove they are among England’s best.
