Shayon Harrison reflects on Tottenham Hotspur debut

The Tottenham Hotspur lad earned his senior debut on Tuesday night.

Speaking to the club’s official website, young striker Shayon Harrison has reflected on his Tottenham Hotspur debut this week.

The 19-year-old striker earned his Tottenham bow by making a seven-minute cameo appearance in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at Liverpool in a fourth-round League Cup outing.

Harrison could, and probably should, have marked the occasion in heroic fashion after he failed to convert a fine chance within minutes of his introduction

The teenager found himself in front of goal with Simon Migonlet in the dying stages of the contest, but he failed to control a dropping ball and the Belgian keeper denied him an equaliser following Vincent Janssen’s 76th-minute penalty.

And Harrison has told Tottenham’s official website that he was too anxious to get the shot off, but he seemed philosophical over the incident nonetheless.

He said: “I just wanted to get it down as quickly as possible and try to get my shot off. I think I rushed it a bit.

“I’ll definitely learn from that whole experience. It’s something I’ll never forget.”

Harrison has proven himself a prolific hitman for Tottenham’s Under-23s and Under-21s, and the young marksman has revealed what manager Mauricio Pochettino told him before his late introduction on Merseyside the other night.

He added: “He just told me to go out there and do what I do best really. He’s shown a lot of belief in me and I thank him a lot for that, I’m really appreciative.

“He gave me a lot of confidence to go out there and play my best. It was a great experience for me, playing against Liverpool. They’re a top side and I can’t wait to try to get out there for us again.”

Harrison might not earn another senior appearance this season, with Spurs being eliminated from the competition.

The reality is that every game in the Premier League and Champions League is huge for the Lilywhites, and they won’t have often have the luxury of experimenting with a 19-year-old centre-forward unfortunately.
