The young Tottenham Hotspur striker should be included in the match-day squad.

Tottenham Hotspur take on Liverpool in the fourth round of the EFL Cup this evening and it was recently confirmed that 17-year-old midfielder Marcus Edwards would miss the match due to injury.

It is a bitter blow for a player who was expected to get more minutes under his belt after coming off the bench in the last round against Gillingham. But while Edwards will not feature, his absence could give another teenager the chance to feature in the match-day squad.

Of all Tottenham’s exciting academy products, the one most deserving of a place on the substitutes’ bench this evening is 19-year-old striker Shayon Harrison.

He is yet to make his first-team debut for the club and this evening’s match at Anfield would be the perfect time to put him on the bench alongside the likes of Anton Walkes and Alfie Whiteman, who both made the squad for the Gillingham clash.

Harrison is enjoying a superb campaign for Tottenham’s under-23 side, scoring four goals in five league games and one in two UEFA Youth League appearances.

With Tottenham struggling for goals in the absence of Harry Kane, Harrison deserves a chance to at least make the bench, and potentially even make his debut late on depending on how the game is going.
