Tottenham Hotspur cult hero Mauricio Pochettino has been heavily linked with both Spurs and Chelsea in recent weeks.

However, it looks as though the Argentine is going to pick the Blues over Tottenham.

On Tuesday, Fabrizio Romano reported that Pochettino and Chelsea held a “very positive meeting” on Monday.

“All parties expect full agreement to be completed soon,” the transfer insider wrote on Twitter.

It’s certainly a blow for Tottenham fans, whose hopes of landing the fan favourite are all-but over.

However, it looks as though Pochettino may have a particularly big job on his hands at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fell to their fifth defeat in a row in all competitions on Wednesday night.

They hosted West London rivals Brentford, who left the Bridge with all three points in a 2-0 win.

BBC Sport pundit Shay Given couldn’t help but wonder what Pochettino would be thinking if he was in the stands.

“This is not the Chelsea of old,” he said on Radio 5 Live, via the BBC Sport website.

“They seem deflated with so much going on off the pitch too. Players can use that as an excuse.

Our view

Pochettino looks like he’ll have a difficult job on his hands trying to sort out the mess at Chelsea.

However, Spurs fans will no doubt be split on this.

Although the Blues are huge rivals of Tottenham’s, they hold Pochettino in high esteem.

With that in mind, they may not necessarily want to see the ‘world-class’ manager fail if he takes the job.

At the same time, if Pochettino takes it and does well, it could well be at Spurs’ expense in the top four.
