Newcastle United are set to take on Southampton in Premier League action at the weekend.

Shay Given has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on 10th October, that he feels Newcastle United could get something from their match against Southampton at the weekend.

Newcastle are set to play at St. Mary’s on Saturday afternoon, and Given believes that Magpies will be able to pick up at least a point.

The former Newcastle stopper said: “Newcastle have picked up under Rafa and you fancy them to get something, to be honest. Southampton are struggling to score goals and Newcastle’s confidence is up.”

Newcastle are currently sat ahead of Southampton in the Premier League table, with Rafael Benitez’s side performing well back at the top level.

The Magpies have won three of their first seven matches since being promoted, and are currently occupying ninth place in the Premier League standings.

Southampton, meanwhile, are in 12th spot – and they are yet to really hit top gear.

The Saints have lost their last two competitive matches, which puts them under pressure to get a positive result against Newcastle.

If Southampton do topple Benitez’s side at the weekend, they will be guaranteed to move ahead of them in the table.
