Shay Given is full of praise for Aston Villa teammate Fabian Delph.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given has told BT Sport that Fabian Delph is the hardest working player at the club.
The 39-year-old Republic of Ireland international made the comments following Villa’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the semi-finals of the FA Cup at London’s Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
“He was Captain Marvel today,” Given told BT Sport. “He has been brilliant all season.
“For him to score the winner today is the stuff of dreams, but it is nothing more than what he deserves. He is the hardest working player at the club and he is a great leader.”
Delph has not had the best of times at Villa this season, but under new manager Tim Sherwood, the former Leeds United star has burst into life.
The England international led by example against Liverpool and scored what proved to be the winning goal in the opening minutes of the second half.
The 25-year-old was easily the best player on the pitch, his energy and drive from midfield a marvel to behold.
Delph will now have to turn his focus back to the Premier League, as Villa look to pull themselves away from the relegation battle.
The former Leeds man has not scored in 23 Premier League appearances so far this season, but he has created 26 chances and has a pass accuracy of 85%.
Villa are a rejuvenated side under Sherwood, but they are not entirely safe. One would expect Delph to make sure that the Villans retain their Premier League status for next season.
