Shaun Wright-Phillips has heaped praise on Leandro Trossard after he starred once again for Arsenal during their 5-0 win over Burnley on Saturday.

The 29-year-old has scored four Premier League goals in his last five matches, starting three of those games for his Premier League title-chasing team.

Leandro Trossard isn’t exactly a regular starter under Mikel Arteta, but when he has been handed chances, either from the bench or in the starting XI, he has proven to be a valuable figure.

Shaun Wright-Phillips is certainly delighted with the £27 million star’s performances and how ‘he should have been starting a long time ago’, as he told Premier League Productions (17/02/24 at 8:15 pm).

This season alone, he has started ten Premier League matches for Arsenal and he only has completed 90 minutes on two occasions.

Perhaps that now needs to change, especially given how destructive Arsenal have been in recent weeks, especially in the absence of the injured, Gabriel Jesus.

Shaun Wright-Phillips certainly thinks so, as he praised Arsenal for spreading the goals around in this monumental three-way battle for the Premier League title race.

Should Leandro Trossard start more games for Arsenal?

“You have to give credit where credit is due, the way they are playing, especially the chances they are creating and taking,” said Wright-Phillips.

“The positive is that it just isn’t one person. The goals are coming from everywhere. To see Trossard move, for me personally, he should have been starting a long time ago.

“To see him on the scoresheet, getting his goals in and creating chances as well. They are only moving forward at the right time.”

Big week for Arsenal

It’s the start of Arsenal’s Champions League knockout stages run and this is where things will get very, very tasty.

Yes, on paper, many would be tipping them to see past Porto, especially in this form. But this is Europe’s elite competition for a reason.

Saying that, they still have to get through the first leg in Portugal on Wednesday night, but then it’s a quick turnaround for their Premier League fixture at home against Newcastle United on Saturday night.

By the time Arsenal kick-off against Newcastle, they could be five points behind leaders Liverpool, as well as Manchester City overtaking them because they both play in midweek.
