The former Villa defender was impressed with the performance of Whelan for the Villans against Ipswich Town at Villa Park in the Championship at the weekend.
Steve Bruce’s side maintained their good run of form with a 2-0 victory over Ipswich at home last Saturday afternoon.

Albert Adomah scored both the goals for Villa, first in the 36th minute and then midway through the second period.
Whelan started the match against Ipswich and played for the entire 90 minutes, and 53-year-old Teale was impressed with the 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international’s performance.

The win against Ipswich means that Villa are now fourth in the Championship table with 35 points from 19 matches.
The Villans are five points behind second-placed Cardiff City and will fancy their chances of challenging for the automatic promotion places.
Villa will face Leeds United away from home at Elland Road in the Championship on Friday evening.
