Conor Shaughnessy has joined Heart of Midlothian on loan from Leeds United in the January transfer window.

Following his move to Heart of Midlothian on loan from Leeds United in the January transfer window for the rest of the season, Conor Shaughnessy said that he turned down clubs in League One to join the Scottish Premiership outfit.

The 22-year-old, who can operate as a central defender or as a central midfielder, told The Scotsman: “There was interest from two clubs in League One in England as well as Hearts. I came up to watch the Hibs game and I made the decision after that.

“On the morning of that game I had a good meeting with the manager. I was shown the training facilities and the stadium and that convinced me that it was the right move for me.”

Shaughnessy has made a very smart decision in snubbing interest from League One in England to move to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.

While many will have doubts on the overall quality of football in Scotland, there is no doubt that at Hearts he will play for a massive club which will prepare him for life at Leeds following his return in the summer of 2019.

Matches against Old Firm clubs Rangers and Celtic will prepare the youngster, and his performances against the Gers and the Bhoys will also make Leeds take notice of him.

If the 22-year-old is able to stand his own against the likes of Rangers, Celtic and Aberdeen, then it will prove to Leeds that he can handle the pressure of playing for the Whites in the Championship or in the Premier League in the future.

Moreover, Hearts are doing well and are just six points behind league leaders Celtic, meaning that Shaughnessy could be involved in a title-challenge.
