Billy Sharp was linked with a move to Colorado Rapids but Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder still views the striker as a key player.
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder appears to have quashed any rumours that captain Billy Sharp will be leaving the club this summer.
Back in February, Sharp was linked with a switch to MLS by ESPN as Colorado Rapids made enquiries about whether the striker would be open to a move to the United States.
At the time the 32-year-old was out of the Blades starting XI with Leon Clarke leading the line instead and as a result his future at Bramall Lane had been cast into doubt.

Yet while Wilder is in the market for two new forwards, that does not mean that Sharp and Clarke don’t still have an important role to play.
“We need different players,” the United boss told the Sheffield Star. “We’ve got a box player in Bill and an all-rounder in Leon. So we need people who can provide different things around them. The top area of the pitch is an area we are looking at, yes.”
“If we can bring people in with different qualities, I think that gives us more room for manoeuvre in certain situations.
“The idea is to add to what we’ve already got and try to make ourselves better that way. These lads have shown what they are capable of and, one year of experience on, I don’t see any reason why they can’t become even better.”
Sharp ended the 2017/18 campaign back in the starting XI under Wilder and finished with decent scoring figures of 14 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions.
Clearly there will be new faces at the club next term looking to fill the attacking roles, but as it stands currently the skipper will not be leaving to make way for them.
