Steven Gerrard’s announcement he would quit Liverpool is not entirely surprising, yet it threatens to mark the end of an era at the club.
The former England captain has been benched recently by Brendan Rodgers, struggling to recapture the dynamic play of last season.

In just the space of one season he has gone from providing 0.38 assists per game to 0.05, but there’s a key reason for this, and it is not his fault.
The blame can be attributed to Liverpool’s poor strikers – for figures actually show Steven Gerrard is creating more chances per game than he did last season.
Add Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez back into the side, and there’s a strong prospect the club captain’s ‘below par’ performances would not be as noticeable.
