Scottie Scheffler and Ted Scott have been the most successful player/caddie partnership in the game over the past four years.

Scott has been on Scheffler’s bag for all 20 of his PGA Tour wins, including the 30-year-old’s four major championship triumphs.

However, behind the scenes it is the world number one’s long-term coach, Randy Smith, who arguably deserves the most credit.

Scheffler has worked with Smith since he was a young boy at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas, Texas.

Smith has worked with numerous other high profile golfers, as well as Scheffler, including Gary Woodland.

It is Randy Smith who has played the most crucial role in Scottie Scheffler’s rise to the best player in the professional game.

Shane Lowry’s opinion on what Randy Smith has done with Scottie Scheffler

Scheffler has actually struggled this season, with his crazy footwork becoming more pronounced with every week that passes.

He has also been hitting his drives and iron shots with more left-to-right curve than he ever has done before, leading some golf fans to question Randy Smith’s role behind the scenes.

However, Shane Lowry highlighted how Smith simply does not get enough credit for the work he has done with Scheffler, when speaking on Sky Sports.

I always say, Randy Smith doesn’t get enough credit, he said.

Because, you know, there are a lot of coaches who would have tried to get Scottie to stay still over the ball.

Yeah, it’s amazing and, you know, I have played with Scottie a little bit. It’s amazing to watch. He’s such a good player. He’s such a good ball striker, and it’s unimpressively impressive if you get me.

He just gets the job done and he’s a great player.

Why Shane Lowry split with his caddie

Lowry revealed the reason behind his break-up with his caddie, Darren Reynolds.

“Obviously myself and Darren finished last week. I had a great chat with him on Saturday [after the US Open].

We had a great three and a half years together and we’re good friends and he was very good to me and we experienced some great things,” he said.

“I just felt like I needed a bit of a change on the course and I felt like the five hour rounds were quite unenjoyable at times and I felt like I needed a bit of a change up. And then Dermot was carrying last week for a guy called James Nicholas and he qualified for the US Open.

It kind of was easy to ask him to do this week because it’s only a drive up the road for him.

“So it’s been nice to have him on the bag and he’s kind of changed it up a little bit, but gave me a bit of confidence. Yeah, it’s just nice to kind of have an old friend on the bag and, hopefully, we can go out there tomorrow and give it a run.”
