Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa side are said to want the Southampton forward.
Shane Long could be an absolutely outstanding signing for Aston Villa, if they are able to bring him to Villa Park.
Long could move on from Southampton, as Mark Hughes’ side have brought in Danny Ings this summer, and if Villa did manage to sign him he would be a stand-out player at Championship level.
Long may have had some issues with hitting the back of the net in the Premier League, but the Republic of Ireland international has all the qualities required to hurt opposition defences in the league below.
Long is blessed with searing pace, and he also has a great work-rate, meaning he is more than happy to chase lost causes.
Bruce currently has been operating with Jonathan Kodjia up-front, but Long would offer Villa a completely different option.
And if Villa can get a deal for the Southampton forward over the line in the coming weeks, it should be treated as a very exciting signing for Bruce’s side.
