Shamrock Rovers have confirmed their midfielder Conor Grant has signed for Sheffield Wednesday.
Grant, who is 16 in July, will play his final game for the Dublin side’s Under-17s on Sunday, before heading to South Yorkshire, where he will presumably link up with the Owls’ academy.
Shamrock’s website describes as “attack-minded” and “a very quick and strong player with good feet.”
Their academy director Shane Robinson said: “Conor first came to our attention playing for the DDSL. A talented individual with the ability to go by his opponent with a drop of the shoulder. He has attributes we are looking to bring into our first team and has been a pleasure to work with in the short time he’s been here. We wish him all the best in his new adventure.”

This past campaign proved a successful one for Sheffield Wednesday at youth level, with their Under-18s beaten in the play-off semi-finals after a second-placed league finish, and their Under-23s going one better on both counts – ending the campaign as league and play-off champions.
And Wednesday’s cause is only likely to have been further strengthened by the presence of former Owls midfielder Stephen McPhail, who is Shamrock’s sporting director.

Grant will hope to emulate fellow Irishmen Alan Quinn, Derek Geary, Owen Morrison and Paul Corry, who went on to play for Wednesday’s first team after leaving their homeland as youngsters.
Meanwhile, another Owls midfielder Charlie Hayford looks to be on his way out of Hillsborough, amid reports he is training with South African champions Bidvest Wits [Soccer Laduma].
