Charlie Adam has labelled Newcastle United’s Ryan Fraser as ‘disrespectful’ amid the confusion over his international commitments.
The 27-year-old is back at Newcastle after pulling out of international duty with Scotland due to a calf injury.
But Fraser was photographed taking part in Newcastle’s first training session under Eddie Howe a little earlier this week.
Coaches at Scotland feel that the player is simply desperate to impress the newly-appointed Magpies boss, hence his withdrawal.
And Adam has torn into the former Bournemouth player – who worked with Howe at the Cherries – and claimed the whole situation is simply a shambles.
He told PLZ Soccer: “Ryan Fraser is the same. For two days later to be training with Newcastle is shambolic and I think it’s disrespectful to the lads who’ve helped him get to a European Championships.”
Hard spot
It’s a difficult situation for Fraser, who earns £167,000 per month at St James’s Park.
On the one hand, it’s his country and he does need to respect the call-up but, on the other, his year-long spell at Newcastle has been a disaster.
And with Howe now on board, it represents a chance for him to turn things around in the North East.
It’s also worth pointing out that Fraser genuinely might be injured.
According to The Daily Mail, he only had a very small part in Howe’s first Newcastle session and was only ‘testing’ the injury.
