Shambles; Like a new signing: Everton fans react to Koeman’s comments on Oumar Niasse

Oumar Niasse appears to have been given another chance by Everton boss Ronald Koeman.

Everton’s attempts to bring in a new striker on transfer deadline day came up short, with the Toffees failing to bring in a replacement for Romalu Lukaku in attack.

The Toffees enjoyed a largely positive summer transfer window, bringing in the likes of Jordan Pickford, Cuco Martina, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Nikola Vlasic, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney all arriving at Goodison Park.

Yet, having lost star striker Lukaku to Manchester United, bringing in another goalscorer was a priority – and Everton ended the transfer window without a new centre forward in their ranks.

Whilst many expected Koeman to make do with Ramirez, Rooney and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, it seems that Oumar Niasse now has a chance to stake his claim for a first-team place, having been completely frozen out by Koeman over the last year.

The Senegal international, who joined Everton from Lokomotiv Moscow in January 2016, hasn’t made a first-team appearance under Koeman, and was sent out on loan to Hull City in January, where he scored five goals in 19 games before heading back to Goodison Park.

With Niasse failing to earn a move away from Everton and Koeman failing to bring in a new striker, the stars appear to have aligned for the 27-year-old to salvage his Everton career this term.

Koeman, speaking ahead of this weekend’s game against Tottenham, has told the Daily Mail that Niasse is back in the fold, and after exhibiting ‘perfect’ behaviour, he could answer Everton’s call for a striker.

Koeman’s comments have unsurprisingly sparked a reaction from Everton fans, with some happy to see Niasse earn another chance to shine having worked hard and not complained, with some believing he can be like a new signing and thrive with quality players around him.

Others can’t believe that it’s come to the point of giving Niasse a chance after failing to sign a new striker, claiming it’s a ‘shambles’ that Niasse – who was ‘woeful’ in his limited playing time for the club under Roberto Martinez – is now being portrayed as a possible saviour.
