Marino Pusic is set to become Shakhtar Donetsk boss, months after he was being lined up for a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Arne Slot is set to lose Marino Pusic – months after rumours suggested they could leave Feyenoord for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham fans are very, very happy with how the club’s managerial hunt played out over the summer.

Ange Postecoglou landed the job and has enjoyed a dream start, with Spurs sitting two points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Tottenham did have other options in mind though, including the Feyenoord boss Arne Slot.

Arne Slot wanted to bring Marino Pusic to Tottenham Hotspur

Slot won the Eredivisie title last season and looked to be closing in on the Spurs job at one point.

The Daily Mail suggested that Slot was ‘on track’ to become Tottenham boss and had even planned to bring Marino Pusic with him.

Pusic is a key man for Slot having worked together at AZ Alkmaar and now Feyenoord, serving as assistant manager.

The Croatian had been lined up to make the move to North London before Slot pulled something of a U-turn.

Slot looked likely to move but instead committed his future to Feyenoord, signing a new contract at De Kuip whilst leaving Spurs to go for Postecoglou.

Sky Sports suggested that there was bad blood at the time with Spurs feeling they had been used in order for Slot to land a new deal.

Tottenham will be happy with how things turned out, but Pusic is now set to make a huge move of his own…

Pusic agrees to become Shakhtar Donetsk boss

Fabrizio Romano now reports that Pusic has signed a contract to become the new Shakhtar Donetsk boss.

Dutch coach Patrick van Leeuwen has been sacked with director of football Darijo Srna now pouncing for Pusic.

Pusic is Croatian just like Srna and that may well have played a part in his move away from Feyenoord.

This means that Pusic will now manage Shakhtar in the Champions League, representing a huge opportunity after a number of years supporting Slot.

In another world, Pusic could have been faced with the decision of whether to leave Tottenham for Shakhtar.

Instead, Spurs are happy with Postecoglou and Slot may soon be without his right-hand man; football can change very, very quickly.
