Will Tottenham sign the Manchester City star? Not according to Hislop.

Shaka Hislop has told ESPN that Kelechi Iheanacho would be a big upgrade on Tottenahm Hotspur’s Vincent Janssen, but he can’t see him joining the club.

The Manchester City talent has been linked with a move to Tottenham and West Ham United this summer, though the latter have pulled out of the race.

Leicester City are also in the reckoning and, according to The Sun, the Foxes matched Man City’s £20 million valuation of the Nigerian hitman this week.

Spurs don’t need a number nine as much as other Premier League clubs, given that Harry Kane is arguably the finest striker in England – if not the world – at the moment.

His back-up, Janssen, only managed two goals from open play in 38 games last season and although Hislop believes that the 20-year-old represents an upgrade on him, he feels that Kane’s presence in North London will prevent the youngster from much-needed games.

He told ESPN: “I’m not sure about this one. If Pochettino decides to play one up front then it’s going to be Harry Kane. Iheanacho doesn’t feature there. If you look at Kane’s back-up Janssen, Iheanacho is an upgrade on that without any kind of question.

“But I feel Iheanacho needs to start games. He’s talented enough. I don’t see him starting 90 percent of Spurs’ games.”

The Nigerian managed four goals in 20 Premier League games last season, though only five were from the start.
