Tottenham Hotspur would be the ideal club for England winger Jadon Sancho to ply his trade, according to Premier League legend and ESPN pundit Shaka Hislop.

After stints at Watford and Manchester City, the 19-year-old left English football in 2017 to join Borussia Dortmund, a decision which has reaped major dividends.

In 47 senior appearances for the Bundesliga club, Sancho has scored 10 goals and claimed a staggering 21 assists, according to Transfermarkt.

The attacker has also made four appearances for England, featuring in the 5-0 win over the Czech Republic this month in which he claimed an assist.

Given how quickly and emphatically Sancho’s stock has risen since his Man City academy days, it’s little surprise that the rumour mill is now linking him with some big clubs.

Indeed, according to The Telegraph, both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the player, with a potential fee of £100million being mentioned.

Although Spurs don’t have a track record of spending huge sums of money on individual players – £36million for Davinson Sanchez is down as their record arrival – Hislop thinks Mauricio Pochettino could be promised money by Daniel Levy following several thrifty seasons.

“Spurs are a perfect fit for Sancho and his talent,” Hislop, who has made upwards of 200 PL appearances, told ESPN. “I think Mauricio Pochettino will remain at Tottenham. Spurs have barely spent any money over the past couple of seasons.

“With the new stadium and Pochettino staying, he will be promised money to spend. If I’ve got money to spend and I’m looking for an up-and-coming talent, Jadon Sancho ticks all the boxes. I think Spurs spend heavy on him.”
