Shaka Hislop comments on the Tottenham Hotspur duo.

Shaka Hislop has suggested to ESPN that Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris is the third best goalkeeper in world football, and believes Spurs will ultimately pay Harry Kane what he wants.

The French keeper has been in fine form for Tottenham this season, and helped France reach the final of Euro 2016 on home soil this past summer.

But a poll on ESPN revealed that the masses rate five other goalkeepers – Manuel Neuer, David De Gea, Gianluigi Buffon, Jan Oblak and Thibaut Courtois, in that order – ahead of the 29-year-old stopper.

But Hislop, a former Premier League keeper himself, says that the Tottenham man should be higher in the list, noting that only Buffon and De Gea are better than the White Hart Lane star.

He told ESPN: “I have huge issues with a lot of names on this list, and the order they’re in. If I’m picking a goalkeeper to start in my team right now, I’m picking Gigi Buffon. I’d have David De Gea second and I’d have Hugo Lloris in third.”

Lloris and star striker Harry Kane are both reportedly demanding more money from Tottenham if they are to extend their contracts, which run until 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Kane, who earns £60,000-a-week at the moment, wants his salary doubled according to The Telegraph, and Hislop does not believe that it will lead to the 23-year-old – last season’s Golden Boot winner in the Premier League – leaving North London.

Asked if money could be the stumbling block, Hislop added to ESPN: “No, not at all. I think Spurs can afford the best players. They can afford to keep Harry Kane, who is the one holding all the cards regarding these contract negotiations.”
