The Everton man was heavily linked to Tottenham Hotspur during the summer.
Shaka Hislop has told ESPN that Everton’s Ross Barkley needs to get down from his “high horse” if he wants a January move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Spurs throughout the entire summer transfer window but a hamstring injury in August saw them back out of the race.
Chelsea looked set to sign him on deadline day but the England international pulled out of a £35 million switch despite arriving at the club to undergo a medical.
It now remains to be seen whether Tottenham renew an interest in January but speculation from The Mirror in July suggested that Barkley wanted £150,000-a-week in order to join Mauricio Pochettino’s side – more than Harry Kane’s wage.
And although former Premier League goalkeeper Hislop believes that a transfer to North London will materialise, the ex-Newcastle and West Ham ace says that Barkley must be willing to compromise first.
He told ESPN when asked if Barkley will join the Lilywhites: “He wanted to be the highest-paid midfielder at Spurs and that’s not going to happen.
“I’m not absolutely certain [he would start]. I’ll put this down as a hit because I think it’ll happen, but he’s got to come down off his high horse a little bit to make it happen.”
