Shai Gilgeous-Alexander opens up about Thunder’s tough run against Spurs
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander didn’t hold back when discussing the OKC Thunder’s struggles against the San Antonio Spurs.
The San Antonio Spurs are now 3-0 against the Oklahoma City Thunder this season, adding another win to their growing streak.
After their previous win, Victor Wembanyama added some flair to the moment, hinting at a new tradition for the Spurs. This time, though, there was no need for extra statements – another victory spoke loud enough. For whatever reason, San Antonio have seemed to have their number this year.
This was another strong showing from Wembanyama too. And while he continues to steer clear of any talk of a rivalry with Chet Holmgren, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took something more out of these defeats. He said:

After the OKC Thunder’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Christmas Day, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander spoke with reporters about where things stand between the two teams.
There were no excuses from Shai, who put it simply – right now, the San Antonio Spurs are just playing better basketball than the OKC Thunder.
“We have to be better as a group. You don’t lose to a team three times in a row in a short span without them being better. They’re just a good basketball team.
“They know how to play, they have talent, they play the right way, and they play together. When you mix those things together, for any basketball team, you win games.
“Whether you make shots or miss shots, you win games. Obviously tonight, they shot the ball well.
“They beat us three times in a row so we can’t use that as an excuse. They’ve been better than us three times now. We gotta figure it out.”
OKC Thunder’s ongoing issues with the San Antonio Spurs
For a lot of fans, it’s come as a bit of a shock to see OKC fall apart whenever they’ve faced San Antonio this season.
The Thunder got off to such a strong start this year that some were even talking about them possibly chasing down the Golden State Warriors’ 73-9 record.
But three of OKC’s five defeats so far have all come at the hands of the Spurs, who have clearly shown they know how to get under their skin.
It’s not just that San Antonio matches up well — there are similarities in how both teams are built, and that often shows when they play each other.
The Thunder will need to dig into what keeps going wrong in these matchups because it’s not something they can ignore if they want to avoid trouble later in the season.
