Speaking on the All to Play For Podcast, Steve Sidwell has been discussing Jude Bellingham after his remarkable World Cup campaign.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder was one of England’s better players at the tournament, and his good showings only amped up speculation about his future.
It’s been widely reported for some time now that Jurgen Klopp is trying to get Bellingham to Liverpool, and, rather aptly, the teenager has now been compared to Steven Gerrard.
Indeed, Sidwell says that Bellingham’s mentality reminds him of Gerrard, stating that the youngster looks like a future England captain in the making.

Bellingham compared to Gerrard
Sidwell spoke about the young star.
“I was going to say that, he’s got to be a future England captain. Just shadows of Stevie G. The way he is, up and down, relentless, the driving force and as you say it’s skipper material written all over him. He was outstanding,” Sidwell said.
Showing glimpses
Of course, it’s hyperbolic to be comparing a 19-year-old kid to one of the greatest Premier League midfielders ever, but it has to be said that Bellingham is showing glimpses of Gerrard-esque brilliance.
He’s not yet picked up that ability to take a big game by the scruff of the neck – he wasn’t anywhere near his best against France, but in terms of always giving it his all and being able to do it in both boxes, Bellingham is quite like Gerrard.
The real test will be when, or if, he arrives in the Premier League, and a move to Liverpool would surely only lead to more comparisons with Gerrard.
It remains to be seen where Bellingham ends up, but he’ll surely be one of the most sought-after stars in Europe this summer.
