It was a pretty mixed afternoon for Leeds United youngster Liam McCarron today.
The 19-year-old started the visit of Newcastle United for the Whites’ Under-23 side today.
And despite scoring two first-half goals, the Leeds reserves, who were 3-0 ahead at one stage, wound up losing 4-3 at Thorp Arch.
But here’s how fans of the Elland Road club reacted to McCarron’s brace, which included a fine diving header in the first half.
There was a lot of hype around McCarron when Victor Orta brought him to West Yorkshire from Carlisle United in the summer of 2019.
But there hasn’t been a lot said or written about the player since, although that’s hardly a bad thing.
At his age, there’s no harm in McCarron being allowed to go about his development in a quiet manner.
These days, teenagers are made out to be potential superstars based on very little substance and when they fail to reach those heights, it looks like a reflection on them rather than a reflection on how exaggerated their talent was to begin with.
It can only be a good thing if McCarron continues to go under the radar at Leeds to some extent.
