Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Sky Sports posted footage of Neco Williams in action for Wales in their 1-1 draw with Belgium.

What’s the story?

Well, the 20-year-old Liverpool Academy graduate played all 90 minutes last night as Wales earned a point against Roberto Martinez’s side.

Williams lined up at left wing-back, in what is a fairly unfamiliar role for him given what he’s used to at Liverpool – the prospect is often used at right-back by Jürgen Klopp.

Nevertheless, he seemingly enjoyed himself in that area, if the footage – and the statistics – are anything to go by.

Sky Sports show the Liverpool No.76 breezing past Thomas Meunier with some fantastic close control, before unleashing a shot at goal.

It looks to be flying into the top corner, but for the fingertips of Koen Casteels.

In terms of the statistics, WhoScored shows that Williams had two shots from left wing-back, and also won two freekicks.

Can Neco Williams operate further forward for Liverpool?

Now, this is an interesting debate.

With the Africa Cup of Nations on the horizon, Liverpool will be without Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, which is a huge double blow.

For a club of Liverpool’s stature, the deputies are poor – with the exception of Diogo Jota.

Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino have shown little to suggest they can fill in out wide for Salah and Mane, so perhaps Williams may be given a shot.

It sounds bizarre to suggest using a backup right-back on the attacking flanks, but his jinking run and shot against Belgium suggests he has some goal threat in his locker.

For now, let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about Williams…
