The Sevilla midfielder would be an excellent addition to the Tottenham Hotspur squad.

Mauricio Pochettino manager

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has a lot of work to do at Tottenham this summer, if he is to guide his side to their first major trophy since their League Cup win way back in 2008.

One particular area of the Spurs squad that needs addressing is the defensive midfield department, especially with Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama being linked with summer exits from the club, according to a report from the Sun.

If both, or even one of those players do end up leaving Tottenham, Pochettino will surely have to prioritise the addition of a physically powerful central midfielder, and who better than Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi?

According to a report from the Independent, the France international has a €40 million (£35 million) release clause inserted into his current contract with the La Liga outfit, and in today’s day and age, that would represent decent value for Spurs.

Standing at 6ft 4in tall, N’Zonzi possesses an imposing physique, and his tenacious approach to the game makes him ideally suited to the robust nature of the Premier League.

He also has the added bonus of having already played in England, after spending time with Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City.

The 29-year-old is a powerful box-to-box midfielder, and contributes equally both defensively and offensively – something that makes him the ideal Dembele replacement.

Tottenham are thought to be demanding around £30 million for the Belgian, so signing N’Zonzi for just £5 million more would certainly be financially viable for Spurs.

And it could turn out to be a real coup for the Lilywhites.
