Premier League duo Liverpool and Tottenham will have to act quickly if they want to have any chance of signing Steven Bergwijn in the summer.
The 21-year-old Dutchman had a phenomenal campaign with PSV last season for whom he scored 15 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions. Bergwijn’s performances have apparently attracted a whole host of top European clubs, including Premier League giants Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
De Telegraaf claimed at the start of June that Premier League sides Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are all following the Dutch international who has also attracted interest from French and German clubs.
However, the latest report suggests that interested parties will need to move quickly for Bergwijn if they want to have any chance of signing him as Sevilla, who are on a massive spending spree, are preparing to swoop.
Liverpool arguably have the most dangerous front three in England but backups to Sadio Mane and Mo Salah aren’t of the quality that is required to win them the Premier League. Bergwijn would be a phenomenal addition to Jurgen Klopp’s system where the Dutch international’s pace would help them cause havoc on the counter-attack.
Spurs, on the other hand, have had some serious success with Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura up front but the return of Harry Kane will certainly push them out wide to either wing. Bergwijn’s addition would allow either Son or Moura to join Kane up top and the 21-year-old’s incredible pace and dribbling skills could massively boost Spurs’ attack next season.
Bergwijn would be a spectacular addition to the Premier League and at 21 years of age, he could be an investment that would produce returns for the best part of the next decade. Spurs and Liverpool should and must go back in for the young Dutch sensation before Sevilla snap him up in the coming weeks.
