Sevilla are reportedly interested in signing Donyell Malen in the January transfer window just one year after the attacker agreed to join Borussia Dortmund despite interest from Liverpool.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Dutch international is one of the names Sevilla are looking into as a potential signing in January, with Malen failing to impress in Germany since making the £30m move to the Bundesliga from PSV Eindhoven.

Malen’s form has been a big worry for Dortmund this season, with the striker, who was initially signed to replace Jadon Sancho, scoring just one goal and bagging three assists in all competitions this season, with the 23-year-old’s sole goal coming all the way back in July in the DFB Pokal.

It seems crazy to think that there was once a time that Malen was one of European football’s most sought-after talents, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that Liverpool were very interested in signing the former Arsenal academy star from PSV.

However, as we know now, Dortmund eventually won the race for the attacker. And Malen being wanted by Sevilla shows just how lucky Liverpool got in missing out on the Dutch international, who has been a rare flop for Dortmund over the past 18 months.

Indeed, there’s still plenty of time for Malen to rediscover his best form. Yet the writing seems to be on the wall already for the 23-year-old attacker at Dortmund, with Liverpool no doubt thanking their lucky stars that they were the ones who didn’t win the race for the youngster.

Malen’s talent is unquestionable to those who have watched the attacker, with the youngster a player who has the potential to become a superstar in the game if given the right platform to succeed. However, Dortmund, to the surprise of many, wasn’t this club. Yet the forward can reinvent himself in January with Sevilla.

After all, a move to a slower league such as La Liga could be the perfect remedy Malen needs to succeed in his career, with Sevilla also a club who have helped produce some sensational attackers over the years, with the former Liverpool target in need of help of reaching his true potential.
