Legia Warsaw defender Michal Karbownik was a virtual unknown at the start of 2020, but he now finds himself a wanted man.
The 19-year-old has emerged with Legia, and his record this season is hugely impressive. With six assists in 19 top-flight games, Karbownik has excelled in his first senior campaign.
Primarily a left back this season, Karbownik can play as a right back and as a midfielder – and he could earn a big move in the near future.
The Mirror (26/04, p68) suggested that Spurs want to sign Karbownik for £10million. They have allegedly laid groundwork with Legia for around a year now, teeing up a deal for the teenager.
However, the Daily Record claim that Celtic want Karbownik too. Bhoys scouts have allegedly watched Karbownik twice this season, ahead of a potential bid.
Celtic raided Jagiellonia Bialystock for Patryk Klimala in January, and could return to the Polish market. Yet with teams in Spain also interested, this won’t be an easy signing.

Now, Sevilla director of football Monchi has played down rumours of Karbownik joining his side. Monchi noted to El Desmarque that the Pole is a real talent and has been watched by Sevilla, but he’s not a priority right now.
“Karbownik is as close to Seville as Seville is to Warsaw,” said Monchi. “Obviously he is a boy who is standing out. He is having a good season and it is duty to watch him. We have seen him, but today he is not in our plans. In that position, there are a couple of guys from the youth setup who can come in handy,” he added.
These comments may just give Celtic and Spurs hope of getting a deal done. The global pandemic will hurt their plans, but Sevilla seemingly backing away at least boosts their chances.
