Sevilla boss, Jorge Sampaoli has admitted that he had a phone call with Tottenham Hotspur starlet Bryan Gil over a loan move in January.
Jorge Sampaoli acknowledges phone call with Bryan Gil
As recently as on Thursday, the Spurs winger’s father told Estadio Deportivo that the former Chile manager has been trying to sign his son for the past 3 years.
Now, it seems Jorge Sampaoli may get his wish, after a phone call with Bryan Gil as a loan switch could well be in the works.
The competition out wide at Hotspur Way has increased even further, with the arrival of Arnaut Danjuma, and with Dejan Kulusevski arguably being the club’s most valuable creator, the youngster may not even get a sniff until the end of the season.

While Bryan Gil heading out to Sevilla on loan has constantly been reporter in the papers, Jorge Sampaoli has acknowledged the phone call between the pair, which more or less confirms that the move is on.
“I called Bryan [Gil directly, he’s the right player for us as new winger. I already wanted to sign Bryan Gil when I was Olympique Marseille coach”, Sampaoli said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
Gil must prove his class at Sevilla
Considering Jorge Sampaoli went out of his way to conduct a phone call with Bryan Gil, the onus is on the silky technician to make Tottenham regret letting him go out on loan.
In flashes, the talented wide player, described as a ‘really good prospect’ (via talkSPORT) by Antonio Conte has looked like the real deal in the 2022/2023 campaign, with his splendid display against Crystal Palace standing out.
However, clearly, the 21-year-old has not done enough to be a shoe-in at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Perhaps it is best for Bryan Gil to play under a manager like Jorge Sampaoli, who values his presence enough to have a phone call with him to persuade the Spurs ace to return to Spain.
