Sevilla playmaker Franco Vazquez has told Sevilla’s show A Balon Parado (35:25) that he chose to stay with the La Liga club despite interest from West Ham United last summer.

West Ham weren’t too busy in the January transfer window, only bringing in Samir Nasri and Mesaque Dju, but their relative inactivity was down to a busy summer.

Manuel Pellegrini and co brought in 11 new signings over the summer, meaning West Ham didn’t have great need or finances to go into the market for new faces.

One player Pellegrini couldn’t land over the summer was Sevilla playmaker Vazquez, amid speculation surrounding a possible move for the Italian.

Estadio Deportivo reported over the summer that West Ham had asked about a deal for Vazquez, only to be told that they had to pay the €40million (£35million) in his release clause.

Since then, Vazquez has hit four goals and six assists for Sevilla, and he may still be on the West Ham radar as Pellegrini seeks additional creativity.

Now though, Vazquez has revealed that he snubbed West Ham’s interest in order to play an important role under Pablo Machin at Sevilla, and in truth, it would be somewhat wild for West Ham to splash the cash on a player who turns 30 this month.

“I knew of interest from other clubs like West Ham, but since the coach was counting on me, I decided to stay,” said Vazquez. “My idea has always been to stay here; my wife and my family are already adapted to Seville,” he added.
