This weekend’s clash with Chelsea will be an important game for both sides, as the blues look to bounce back from their defeat to QPR.
When Arsenal were demolished 8-2 by Manchester United even their own fans feared their season could not recover.
Since then the club have suffered 4-3 defeats to Blackburn and 2-1 to Tottenham, but throughout October, the club seem to have got their swagger back.
Arsenal have started putting together back-to-back wins, a feat they have struggled to manage since losing the Carling Cup final to February this spring.
Unbeaten in the Champions League, and Robin van Persie looking in better form than ever, there is suddenly a good vibe at the Emirates again.
They have won seven of their last eight matches, even if this stat includes a home win to Shrewsbury, a winning mentality is important, and was only punctured by a derby loss to Spurs.
Part of this is down to the form of new signing Gervinho, along with Aaron Ramsey once again looking like the player he was threatening to become prior to his injury.
Concerns remain over the contribution of Theo Walcott, and the ineffective Marouane Chamakh, but a winner from South Korean international striker Park Chu-Young last night will hopefully go some way to allaying fears over what would happen if van Persie gets injured.
Now in the quarter finals of the Carling Cup, a favourable draw could see the side make it to the final, and exercise some demons.
But despite their winning sequence, there is a feeling they have not been properly tested in the Premier League.
A clash with a wounded Chelsea, with the returning Fernando Torres, will be the acid test of their progress.
What would a results mean for either club?
Chelsea win?
The blues need to get back on track after their shock defeat to QPR. With Man United a possibility to drop points at Everton, it would allow them back into the title race.
For Arsenal it would be a huge blow, just when the club seem like being genuine top four contenders again.
Arsenal win?
Win and Arsenal are truly back. Arsenal have lost each game against the other ‘top five’ this season, and need to make a statement.
For Chelsea a second successive loss would be harmful for their title ambitions, just as they seemed poised to make the title a three-horse race.
So for that reason expect a draw, neither side can afford to lose.
