With reports of up to 15 clubs enquiring for the ex Feyenoord loanee where should he go in the Premier League?
After an incredible season on loan at Feyenoord last season John Guidetti now appears set for another loan move.
Whilst Feyenoord are once again interested as well as many teams in Italy, such as Lazio, Siena and Fiorentina, hoping to take advantage of his Italian ancestry which Premier League clubs, should, if they aren’t already, try their utmost to bring in the super Swede for the upcoming campaign.
Aston Villa
After an opening day defeat at West Ham questions must be asked at Villa Park as to what went wrong. Despite playing delightful football throughout the game they barely caused the Upton Park faithful to go white knuckled or shuffle on their chairs in the Claret-Blue derby.
Nathan Delfouneso has failed to hit the heights of his promise and Andreas Weimann is not yet ready for the burden of filling Gabby Agbonlahor’s injured shoes.
Whilst Kenwyne Jones has been touted as a potential signing Guidetti provides much of the same but at better value as a season long loan.
Sunderland
Martin O’Neill’s men have been linked with the Swede this summer and there is no wonder as they are desperately thin in the striker department. The signing of Louis Saha acts as a temporary bandage for now but more provisions must be brought in as Stephane Sessegnon cannot continue to lead a frontline alone.
With international team-mate Seb Larsson in their ranks Sunderland have the edge there as well as the promise of regular football that John and Manchester City will want from any deal.
Stoke
John could be the missing link at Stoke City. For all his stepovers and neat footwork also comes a powerful striker who is very good in the air. Playing alongside Peter Crouch would suit his game to a tee and Tony Pulis might feel worried at the apparent impotence of his team at the Madejski last weekend.
Wigan
They have already utilised the loan market with the signing of Arouna Kone and Ryo Miyaichi this summer and could now try luring Guidetti to partner the Japanese starlet again as he did last season at Feyenoord.
With looming doubts over Victor Moses’ future and the inconsistency of Franco Di Santo and Mauro Boselli a worry, John would be a valuable addition at the DW.
Newcastle
Alan Pardew was said to have made an enquiry about taking Guidetti on loan earlier this summer, although at that point City had not made up their minds as to their intentions.
Newcastle could do with another striker, with Ba and Cisse set to depart for the African Nations Cup next year for a month, leaving just the Ameobi brothers in attack. Another option is re-signing Andy Carroll, but Guidetti would be cheaper and less divisive among supporters who are split on bringing back their former player. A sticking point is whether City would consider Newcastle a rival, but it did not stop them letting Adebayor go on loan to Spurs last year.
Tottenham or Liverpool
Going down a different route as one of the chasing pack may want to bring the super Swede in to new philosophies at the Lane and Anfield respectively.
Neither is blessed with attacking talent and would see a potentially potent loan signing as great business. Whether City would want to strengthen teams higher up the league is debatable but Mancini will unlikely see these two as domestic threats and could see the opportunity of John getting high class regular English football as a huge bonus.
A lot depends on John’s recovery from a mysterious illness that has reportedly left him without the feeling in one of his legs for extended periods of time; however as reports of impending deals mount should a team in the Premier League take a punt on the young Manchester City marksman?
