The Reds’ squad has become bloated. These five players must be moved on, if not more…
According to Sky Sports, seven new signings have arrived on Merseyside this summer. Some outlets also suggest an eighth in American teenager Brooks Lennon. Here are five who must leave to make way:
Jose Enrique
There no longer appears to be a place for the Spaniard in Liverpool’s back four, with poor form and a lack of fitness holding him back last term. Jon Flanagan could return to fitness next season, while Alberto Moreno and Nathaniel Clyne should have the full-back slots nailed down in any other event.
Rickie Lambert
Through very little fault of his own, the 33-year-old’s move to Liverpool hasn’t worked out. Letting him go will be of greater benefit to Lambert himself than it would to the Anfield outfit. The old-fashioned striker still has plenty to offer elsewhere – but was never a fit for Brendan Rodgers’ system during what was a very poor-sighted move on the club’s part.
Fabio Borini
The Italian has even less of a future on Merseyside than Lambert and, with Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings, Divock Origi and another striker expected to be signed by the Reds all standing in his way, Borini would be wise to leave Liverpool if the club can agree a sale.
Mario Balotelli
The less said about this the better. If there is a buyer, Liverpool should jump at the chance.
Raheem Sterling
The 20-year-old must be offloaded for very different reasons. It appears the Anfield outfit’s signings so far this summer have been made on the basis they will sell Sterling for big money and he has been firmly linked with a Liverpool exit. The club must avoid any U-turns, however, and make absolutely sure a deal goes through. A player who doesn’t want to be at Liverpool any more will be of no use to the side.
