Ryan Sessegnon’s impressive development draws similarities with Tottenham legend Bale

The talented Fulham youngster has thrived as a winger and at left-back, with Tottenham taking a close interest in his development.

After breaking into the Fulham first-team in spectacular fashion last season, Ryan Sessegnon has continued to develop apace, with the 17-year-old having produced some excellent performances this campaign.

Rather inevitably, comparisons have been raised with Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, who made a significant impact as a left-back early in his career at Southampton before later becoming one of the standout wingers in world football.

Sessegnon will hope to follow in Bale’s footsteps by undergoing the transition from an attack-minded left-back to a fully-fledged left winger, and the early signs suggest that he can thrive in the latter position.

Despite initially struggling, Bale thrived at Tottenham Hotspur and the Premier League club are interested in signing Sessegnon, as reported by Sky Sports.

Possessing pace and flair in abundance, Sessegnon is also starting to become more of a threat in front of goal and hit the headlines recently after scoring a hat-trick in Fulham’s 5-4 victory away to Sheffield United.

Sessegnon will certainly have to become a little stronger physically if he is to thrive as a winger at the highest level but for now he is capable of making a major impact there in the Championship.

Eventually, however, he will be able to step up and he would be capable of thriving at Tottenham in the same way that Bale did, with his pace and directness causing difficulties for opposing defenders.

If he was to start out as a left-back at Tottenham it would provide Sessegnon with time to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League before eventually featuring more regularly as a winger.

Sessegnon is seemingly content to remain at Fulham but if Tottenham were to offer him assurances regarding regular game time it wouldn’t be entirely surprising to see him make the switch to join Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

The England U19 international is certainly capable of making the step up to the top tier of English football in due course and, should he continue to develop, he will hope to eventually emulate Bale by also thriving in the Champions League.
