Speaking to GiveMeSport, Dean Jones has shared an update on Joao Felix’s future amid all sorts of speculation.
The Portuguese attacker isn’t having the best of times over in Madrid, and it’s been widely reported that he’ll be allowed to leave on loan next month.
Manchester United have been strongly linked while David Ornstein has said that Arsenal are keen on the attacker too.
However, Jones now says that Chelsea’s interest in the player is worth taking seriously, but he did caveat that with the fact that an obligation to buy the player wouldn’t suit Graham Potter’s side right now.
Chelsea could go for Felix
Jones shared what he knows about Chelsea and Felix.
“It is one to take seriously and this is the level of player they want and they need, but an obligation doesn’t really work for them,” Jones said.
“If he flops and they’ve then got to spend money on him, that’s really not ideal, especially when you consider Chelsea’s recent record with pretty significant signings in attack.”
Obigation doesn’t suit
Chelsea do need a new forward through the door in the January transfer window, but signing someone on a loan with an obligation to buy wouldn’t suit the Blues.
Come the summer, Chelsea will have Christopher Nkunku arriving, presumably as their first-choice centre-forward, while Graham Potter will also get the chance to make his own judgement and decision on Romelu Lukaku who is still contracted to the Blues.
A six-month loan is what Chelsea need right now, and Felix would be perfect in that regard, but it remains to be seen whether or not they can negotiate such a deal without an obligation to buy involved.
