European football’s transfer guru Fabrizio Romano spoke on the Here We Go podcast about Arsenal’s reported interest in RB Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai.
The Gunners are in the market for a creative midfielder ahead of the January transfer window. Mikel Arteta needs a new number 10 to replace Mesut Ozil, whose Arsenal career looks to have come to a sad end.
Szoboszlai is one of the names that has been heavily linked with Arsenal over the last few weeks. Romano addressed the rumour on his podcast, and he claimed that the Gunners are serious with their interest.
Arsenal are very keen
He said: “Arsenal are seriously interested in Dominik Szoboszlai. He has a €25 million (release clause) but there are three or four other clubs interested. It’s possible that he’ll leave in January. He has a €25 million release clause and Arsenal are continuing to scout him.”
Szoboszlai is one of the most exciting talents in world football. The Hungarian has scored five goals and provided nine assists so far this season, and he is Europe’s most in-form player since football’s resumption (Goal).

He has scored 13 goals and provided 20 assists in just 24 club games since football returned. That is the same as Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne achieved last season in 35 games; 11 more than Szoboszlai.
It is no surprise that Arsenal are interested in the 20-year-old. At just £22.3 million, it would be one of the bargains of the window. But Arteta, Edu and the rest have to hurry up as the Gunners are not the only ones in the race.
AC Milan have been heavily linked in the past while RB Leipzig are also said to be interested. It won’t be a surprise to see a few more clubs join the race in the coming weeks, which would make things more difficult than it already is for the Gunners.
