It was another evening to forget for Arsenal, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Leicester on Sunday, with both Andy Gray and Alan Shearer letting rip at their style of play.

Presenter Richard Keys asked Gray what Arsenal’s style of play is and he told beIN SPORTS (25/10/20 at 8:20 pm) ‘seriously, I don’t know’ and then pointed out that they are trying to mimic Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Shearer told Optus Sport that Arsenal’s performance last night was ‘flat’, ‘lethargic’ and they had ‘no spring in their step’, as Jamie Vardy came off the bench to secure all three points for his team.

A lot has been made of Arsenal’s attacking performances this season and two outspoken pundits – Gray and Shearer – shared their thoughts on their style.

“No, seriously, I don’t know [what their style is],” Gray told beIN SPORTS. “I don’t know what they are. What they are trying to be is be a total passing football team in the mould of the team he left, Manchester City.

“They are Manchester City light because City have been doing it a lot longer than they have. We have to remember that.”

“Arsenal were flat, lethargic, no spring in their step,” Shearer told Optus Sport. “That is because Leicester stopped everything they threw in the second half.”

Arsenal’s record transfer deals

  1. Nicolas Pepe

    £72 million

  2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

    £56 million

  3. Alexandre Lacazette

    £52 million

  4. Thomas Partey

    45 million

  5. Mesut Ozil

    £42 million

Alexandre Lacazette saw his header ruled out by VAR early in the first half, and in truth, the North London club were hard done by and the goal should have stood.

But even with such decisions, Arsenal fans are still expecting their team to produce the goods in the attacking third and showcase that they have the capabilities to make the ball talk.

What’s worrying is that it’s a teenager – Bukayo Saka – who has looked the most lively for Arsenal when going forward.

Rather than the senior players leading the way for the youngsters, it’s Saka expressing that they need to get on his wavelength rather than the other way around.
