‘Seriously, I couldn’t believe it’: Kyle Walker shares what left him stunned about Leeds

Kyle Walker has told the ITV Football Podcast (07/10/20) that he was left stunned by Leeds United’s tactics during their ‘Basketball’-like game on Saturday.

The Manchester City right-back used Raheem Sterling as an example and stated that he ‘couldn’t believe’ that Leeds’ right-back would follow his teammate from one side of the pitch to the other.

Even though Marcelo Bielsa recorded a score draw against his student Pep Guardiola, in truth, if it had finished 5-5, then it wouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone.

Walker played the entire match at Elland Road and, at first, he shared his thoughts on the crazy results and performances that have occurred recently before sharing what it was like coming up against Leeds.

“It’s a nightmare for defenders, isn’t it really,” Walker told the ITV Football Podcast. “There are no clean sheets.

“I am not bothered if Man City go and score eight goals. All I am bothered about is the nil at the end – weird things do happen.

“Leeds, I am promising you, Andros [Townsend] was the weirdest game. It’s like Basketball. I couldn’t believe it. Seriously, I couldn’t believe it.

“Say, for instance, Raheem was playing on the left and he’s going over to the right. Their right-back is going over to the right with him. It’s incredible. But I think they have a system that works. They have, of course, achieved what they have achieved in the Championship and coming up into the Premiership as well.”

One thing Bielsa and Leeds have done is add a much-needed breath of fresh air to England’s top-flight and spiced it up to exciting levels.

Added with the starts the likes of Everton and Aston Villa have made, it seems that the Premier League could be in for one of its craziest ever seasons.

Whilst there is still a long way to go, one thing that won’t change is the manner in which teams like Leeds play because, whether they are in form or out of form, they will press the living daylights out of any team they face.
