Writing in his column for CBS Sports, Fabrizio Romano has been giving updates on some of the USA national team’s star players and what their next steps are.
The US were a real breath of fresh air at this World Cup, they held their own against some top opposition and played with a real intensity.
A fair few of the American players caught the eye, including Juventus’ Weston McKennie.
McKennie, of course, has been linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks, with Alasdair Gold recently claiming that Fabio Paratic ‘absolutely adores’ the player with a January move possible.
Romano has now shared what he knows about McKennie going forward, and he says that there is a serious chance that the midfielder leaves Juventus next year, with a January move a possibility.

McKennie likely to leave
The journalist gave the lowdown on McKennie’ situation
“There is a serious possibility that Weston McKennie leaves Juventus in 2023. There are no concrete negotiations yet, but Tottenham had been interested in the midfielder in recent months and other Premier League clubs have taken information on the midfielder, who started every World Cup game for USMNT and had some pretty big performances in Qatar,” Romano wrote.
“Juventus are going through a difficult moment on a corporate level and McKennie departing as early as January is possible. Otherwise, next summer might be when he makes his exit from Turin.”
Spurs front of the queue
If McKennie is indeed set to depart the Serie A giants in January, one has to imagine that Tottenham Hotspur is his most likely destination.
As mentioned earlier, this is a player that Fabio Paratici is enamoured with, he signed him initially at Juventus, and the admiration hasn’t ended since.
Given that Spurs do need some extra bite in their midfield and that their budget as one of the Premier League’s top clubs could easily stretch to signing McKennie, this move looks like the logical next step in the American’s career.
