Norwich City attempted to sign Grégoire Defrel in the summer of 2015, but the move eventually broke down.

Sassuolo striker Grégoire Defrel has divulged how he rejected the chance to join Norwich City in the summer of 2015, because he was scared of the idea of ‘change’, during an interview with French media outlet France Football, and quoted via Sport Witness.

The 25-year-old French forward has been in fine form for his club this season, scoring seven goals in 15 outings.

Speaking to France Football, Defrel also shared how he has not ruled out a move to England at some point, but how the potential switch to the Canaries came too early in his development, as quoted by Sport Witness:

“Actually, during the summer of 2015, Norwich were very interested, but I was scared of change. We’ll see next year. From here on in, I need to continue to score.”

Norwich’s eventual relegation to the Championship last season was partly down to their lack of goals, and who knows how things may have turned out, had Defrel took the plunge and made the move to Carrow Road.

Cameron Jerome is their current top scorer this season, with six goals in 15 Championship outings, and if they are to make a sustained push for promotion, the 30-year-old former Birmingham City and Stoke City forward will have to improve upon that ratio, or Alex Neil will have to scour the market for another striker capable of getting them the goals they need.
