The Udinese midfielder fizzed a thunderous strike past Joe Hart and showed exactly why West Brom reportedly want him.
If any West Brom fans were checking in on Udinese’s Serie A class at Torino to catch a glimpse of their reported midfield target, they won’t have been disappointed.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, 21-year-old dynamo Jakub Jankto had earned his way onto The Baggies’ summer shopping list thanks to his stand-out performances in the Italian top flight this season.
And while he is renowned for his excellent set-piece delivery and intelligence in possession, a tally of five goals from midfield certainly stands out. As did the nature of his strike as Udinese earned a 2-2 draw with Torino on Sunday afternoon.
Intercepting a loose ball just inside his own half, Jankto drove from the centre circle to the edge of the box before unleashing a thunderbolt strike into the top corner (you can watch the goal in all it’s glory here on BT Sport’s official website).
The cynics and social media sniggerers may point at old Torino ‘keeper Joe Hart, beaten at his near post. But even Hart circa 2012 would have struggled to react in time to Jankto’s blockbusting hit.
West Brom, despite enjoying a mightily impressive campaign sitting in eighth position, are hardly stocked with goalscoring midfielders. In fact, only James Morrison has hit more than four from the centre of the park across the entire campaign.
Therefore, a player with Jankto’s precision and eye for the spectacular would be well received at The Hawthorns. Although, if he zaps a few more thunderbolts into the net before the end of the season, he may add a few pennies onto his reported £8 million valuation (The Sun).
