Everton will soon face a decision on Robin Olsen as they consider a long-term deal for the Roma loanee.
The Swede was outstanding against Leeds United last week, but didn’t cover himself in glory against Manchester United on Saturday.
Olsen is looking to take his chance with Jordan Pickford out of action, but few would blame Everton for looking at other options.
One player they wanted before landing Olsen back in October was Sergio Romero, but Manchester United wouldn’t let him go.
The Athletic note that Everton offered to pay a £2million loan fee and his £100,000-a-week wages to get a deal done, but United said no.
The Argentinian is third-choice at Old Trafford behind David De Gea and Dean Henderson, which just isn’t good enough for a player of Romero’s quality.
Marcel Brands knows Romero well having signed him for AZ Alkmaar in 2007, so we could well see the Toffees make another move this summer.

Now, ex-United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has told Stadium Astro that he is ‘sure’ that Romero would go to Everton is the offer arrives again this summer.
Kuszczak feels Everton need competition in that role, whether it’s Olsen or Romero, and is backing the Argentinian to get his transfer at the end of the summer.
“He needs to make a decision on what to do with his career,” said Kuszczak. “I’m sure if he can go to Everton, he would do it. But there must be something we don’t know that is on the way. Everton need to bring someone in for competition,” he added.
