According to The Express, Everton wanted to sign Sergio Rico from Paris Saint-Germain before they brought Asmir Begovic to Goodison Park this summer.
What’s the story?
It is being reported by The Express this morning that before Everton signed Begovic last week, they looked at securing the services of Rico from PSG.
The Toffees actually held talks over signing the 27-year-old, who won the UEFA Europa League twice with Sevilla and the Ligue 1 title once with PSG.
However, the Spanish goalkeeper turned down the chance to move to Everton.
Why?
Because Rico wants to play regular first-team football at his next club, according to the report.
Jordan Pickford is the first-choice goalkeeper at Everton, and that is not going to change.

Asmir Begovic is good enough
Begovic is the clear second-choice goalkeeper at Everton, but, make no mistake, he is a very good player.
The 34-year-old did well at Stoke City and earned the move to Chelsea in 2015.
Begovic will push Pickford.
Everton have a new manager in charge now, Rafael Benitez, and the Toffees will be determined to establish themselves in the Premier League top six in the coming years.
