Sergio Reguilon says Tottenham Hotspur’s players were always talking about how much they missed the fans last season.

Spurs fans return

Speaking to the club’s official website, Reguilon has opened up about his time at Tottenham so far.

The Spaniard spent his first season playing behind closed doors in North London and during that time his longer-serving Tottenham team-mates constantly spoke about how much they missed the atmosphere.

Reguilon is now getting a taste of the noise levels in Tottenham’s new ground though.

And the full-back is embracing having supporters back. He said: “In the dressing room last season, all the players were talking about was the fans.

“They were telling me about the amount of fans that would be going to away games, like Wolves the other week. I was like ‘okay’, I would listen to them, but I wanted to feel that sensation, the feeling of having the fans there, myself.

“I remember the game against Arsenal at home last season, we won 2-0, but only 2,000 fans could be there. I could feel a little bit of the sensation of what it would be like with fans in the stadium from that game. But, this year, when everything started to open, with all the fans and the families able to come to the stadium, it’s now a completely different experience.

“It’s so important for us to have the fans close at the games as well as our family and friends. Then you can feel that atmosphere properly.”

Inspiring the team

Tottenham fans certainly drove their team forward against Aston Villa in their last game before the international break.

It would have been easy for Tottenham supporters to get on the backs of their team after a disappointing North London derby.

However, the atmosphere at the ground actually stayed very positive for much of the clash, as Spurs picked up an important 2-1 victory.

That win has lifted spirits around Spurs, with the club now looking up the table rather than down.

Tottenham return to action in two weekends’ time, when they take on Newcastle United.
