Gary Neville has said on Sky Sports Premier League (8pm, March 12, 2022) that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte needs to replace Sergio Reguilon and Matt Doherty.
The Sky Sports pundit made the suggestion after watching Tottenham in action against Manchester United away from home at Old Trafford in the Premier League at the weekend.
Spurs lost 3-2.
Former United star Neville was not impressed by right wing-back Doherty and left wing-back Reguilon.
Neville said, as transcribed by TheBootRoom: “They’re not good enough, nowhere near good enough.
“I think to play that system you have to have good wing backs in it and I think Reguilon and Doherty, the quality is not there in both sides of their game, defensively and going forward. I think if they had better wing-backs, they’d be doing a lot lot better.”

Tottenham should keep Sergio Reguilon and Matt Doherty
In our view, Tottenham should keep Reguilon and Doherty, unless, of course, they find upgrades on them.
That would be unlikely if Tottenham do not finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.
Reguilon is a good left-back who is playing left wing-back under Conte.
It takes time for players to understand a new role and a new position.
Doherty is an experienced player who has done relatively well at right wing-back.
Now, of course, there are better wing-backs than Reguilon and Doherty, but they may not be willing to come to Tottenham, who are unlikely to challenge for the Premier League title anytime soon.
