Sergi Roberto is happy in Spain amid reports linking Tottenham Hotspur with a move.

Sergi Roberto has told Marca that he is happy at Barcelona, amid speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League.

Mundo Deportivo reported on Sunday that Tottenham Hotspur were one of several English clubs interested in signing the 25-year-old, who can play in midfield and defence.

The Sun have previously claimed that the Spaniard has a release clause of £36.5 million.

However, Roberto, who scored in Sunday’s win over Betis, reveals to Marca that he is content with life in Catalunya for now.

He said: “I’m happy. [Against Real Madrid in the Super Cup] I was happy on a personal level and I felt comfortable today, too. I played in my favoured midfield position.

“I started at the Bernabeu and the coach has given me confidence. I’ve scored today and I want to be important.

“In pre-season I wasn’t starting, but now in the official matches I am playing more. I want to continue here and continue like this.”

Tottenham have signed only one player – Davinson Sanchez – so far this summer and they face a race against time if they want to add others to the squad.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side need reinforcements, evident by their 2-1 defeat by Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday, but it does not seem as if Roberto will be one of them.

They need a right-back following Kyle Walker’s exit and though Roberto can fill that role, he prefers playing central midfield.
