Sergi Canos has revealed that some Norwich City players told him to score against Leeds United prior to Brentford’s 2-0 win over the automatic-chasers on Monday afternoon at Griffin Park.

Following the message from the current Championship leaders, Canos went on and delivered on their demands as he found the back of the net.

Prior to Neal Maupay opening the scoring, Patrick Bamford should have been awarded a penalty, but referee James Linington waved away his protests. After the break, matters became worse for the away side when Canos doubled his side’s lead.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football (22/04/2019 at 7:20 pm), Canos, who played for Norwich during the early part of his career, shared what he was told by some of his former teammates.

“I had some [Norwich] players messaging me yesterday saying ‘please score tomorrow’ and yes I am pleased for them [my former club] and congratulations to Norwich,” Canos told Sky Sports Football.

It was another day to forget for Marcelo Bielsa’s men because they are now seemingly heading into the playoffs after suffering back-to-back defeats in the space of three days.

Earlier on in the day, Sheffield United thumped Hull City 3-0 to increase their lead in second spot by three points, with two games of the season remaining and a much better goal difference.

It now seems that the Blades only need one more win and their place in next season’s Premier League would be all but confirmed because of the +11 goal difference to their rivals.
